Our Story

Helping Hands Daycare was founded in 1989 in Ajax, Ontario by Nancy Eickmeier, R.E.C.E, a small centre in Ajax with a capacity of 45 children. In 1990, the first Pickering location was built in the Amberlea area. For the next 11 years, the centre continued to grow and expanded from 39 children to 66. Needing more room, a new centre was built on Kingston Rd @ Whites Rd in 2001 that could accommodate 104 children. In 2003, we grew again, opening a centre in Brooklin with a capacity of 103 Children.

We opened our second Pickering site in 2005 (Rougemount & Kingston Rd), that has a capacity of 112. In August 2008, Ajax came calling again (Ashbury & Audley)! This beautiful site sits lakeside, in a community where many families can walk their children to the centre every day and park their strollers under our spacious porch. This playground is unique from our others, as it has the feel of someone's backyard with grass, trees, and a covered porch area. In February 2010, we opened our Courtice location, a beautiful centre with a small town, country feel. In September 2010, we also opened our Westney site, across from the Go, this being our largest centre to date. In 2013, we opened our Whitby location (Thickson & Taunton). This beautiful site is a bustling beehive of activities and fun :)

In the summer of 2020, Helping Hands Daycare began our next phase of expansion by opening a new centre in Millbrook, a charming and rapidly growing community and our first in the County of Peterborough! We also opened a new centre in Port Perry, an equally beautiful and rapidly growing community in Durham Region. In the winter of 2022, Helping Hands opened our largest centre to date in Bowmanville, where we welcomed nearly a full house on opening day! We are so thrilled to be part of these wonderful communities!
